As Luck Would Have It

I've been all over the interwob for the last couple of months looking at potential housing options in the Puget Sound area. Depending on when you asked I would have told you I was thinking First Hill, West Seattle, South Bellevue, Ballard or Queen Anne. I even thought about buying a house or condo from the get go.

I came to my senses and put off the house for a year of saving and market watching and buried myself again in the Seattle apartment market.

Today I believe I've landed the best I can do. A 700 sq ft 1-1 above the Uwajimaya grocery store in the International district. I called them to check availability right after someone turned in their intent to vacate. And this place is full-up. So my timing is impeccable.

Pros:
1. It's walking/biking distance to work, about 7 blocks.
2. It's actually across the street from another Amazon building, where Bucket works. So there is actually a shuttle that goes directly from the grocery store to my building, for when it's raining.
3. Austin and Dave lived there a couple of years ago and I know the complex and units are nice.
4. Best price/sqr ft price
5. Big for a 1-1
6. Grocery Store downstairs
7. CHEAP! (relatively speaking, I'm stealing the sum'bitch)
8. Stumbling distance from the drinkings, in case having a degree and a full-time job don't instantly mature me.

Cons:
1. The grocery store is Uwajimaya, so things like tortillas and olive oil will be hard to find. But will have a good line on rice noodles and, y'know...pocky or whatever.
2. It /is/ the I-District, so there is a similar problem when I want a burger...or..y'know, a white person. But downtown is merely 7 blocks away, so I can go there.
3. It is in the heart of Seattle, so traffic and parking will get annoying. I will basically walk everywhere. I guess that's also a pro, but I won't be entertaining much.
4. It's by the Seahawk's stadium. So game days will kill any chances of leaving the city.

I'm sending the application and fees tomorrow. I reckon I'll try to move in late in January.

That sounds awesome. I really like dense urban areas where arbitrary points of interest A and B aren't farther apart than an enjoyable walk -- or a hop through a solid public transportation system.

Parking? Driving people around? If you live in the middle of downtown, where do you need to drive on a regular basis?

I think most of us need cars less than we think we do -- less often and to a lesser degree.

I just found out that there is a comedy club about 2 blocks from my place. Stay tuned for upcoming poor career choice.
